چکیده

Evaporation-induced-self-assembly is widely used to produce chiral cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) free-standing films reflecting left-handed polarized light. Research on supported CNC rather scarce. The reflection and/or transmission of unpolarized light are the most common optical techniques characterize selective whereas use quantify properties limited. Here, fabrication glass substrates by a shear-coating method, as well full characterization their polarization properties, reported. Optical chirality evidenced in films, showing brilliant blue structural color when viewed through polarizer and darkness right-handed polarizer. Mueller-matrix data modes quantitatively origin films. quantification linear circular birefringence, dichroism, performed analytical inversion Mueller matrix mode regression analysis using Tellegen constitutive equations. equivalence two methods demonstrated. swelling water kinetics during drying studied spectroscopy.

Digital Color in Cellulose Nanocrystal Films

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) form chiral nematic phases in aqueous suspensions that can be preserved upon evaporation of water. The resulting films show an intense directional coloration determined by their microstructure. Here, microreflection experiments correlated with analysis of the helicoidal nanostructure of the films reveal that the iridescent colors and the ordering of the individual ...

Thermal expansion of self-organized and shear-oriented cellulose nanocrystal films.

The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) films was characterized using novel experimental techniques complemented by molecular simulations. The characteristic birefringence exhibited by CNC films was utilized to calculate the in-plane CTE of self-organized and shear-oriented self-standing CNC films from room temperature to 100 °C using polarized light image corr...

Optical parameter determination of ZrO2 thin films prepared by sol gel dip coating

Abstract : Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2) thin films were prepared on glass substrates by sol-gel dip coating method using Zirconium Oxychloride Octahydrate, Isopropanol and Acetyl acetone as precursor, solvent and stabilizer respectively. In the present work, the optical properties of the Zirconia thin films have been studied. Samples with different number of layers were prepared by repeating the dipp...

Cellulose nanocrystal/polyolefin biocomposites prepared by solid-state shear pulverization: Superior dispersion leading to synergistic property enhancements

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), a class of renewable bionanomaterials with excellent mechanical properties, have gained major interest as filler for polymers. However, challenges associated with effective CNC dispersion have hindered the production of composites with desired property enhancements. Here, composites of polypropylene (PP) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) with 5e10 wt% unmodified...

Structural, Electrical and Optical Properties of Molybdenum Oxide Thin Films Prepared by Post-annealing of Mo Thin Films

Molybdenum thin films with 50 and 150 nm thicknesses were deposited on silicon substrates, using DC magnetron sputtering system, then post-annealed at different temperatures (200, 325, 450, 575 and 700°C) with flow oxygen at 200 sccm (standard Cubic centimeter per minute). The crystallographic structure of the films was obtained by means of x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. An atomic force micr...
